80's Beach Party Movies

Beach party movies were all the rage in the 60's, but fell out of favor in the 70's. Well, the great thing about the 80's was seeing tired 70's styles fall out of favor! And beach films made a comeback. Some were without irony, others were straight up parody. Perhaps the best 80's parody of the beach movie genre actually reunited original beach party sweethearts Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. And fitting with the screwball comedy theme, it compensated for the skeletal plotline by offering cameo appearances by Bob Denver, Don Adams, Tony Dow and Jerry Mathers (Wally and The Beaver), Dick Dale, Stevie Ray Vaughan, O.J. Simpson, and Pee-wee Herman (pre-scandal for both of the last two). What was the name of the film?

Bonus Question: As the movie mentioned above is set in 1980's era California, there's an ample supply of punk rock types. The band M.O.D. even makes an appearance. But the scene that puts the odd in odyssey is seeing Annette Funicello perform a duet with a well known LA ska band from the 80's. What was the name of the band?

80's Prom Night Trivia

This Thursday night is PROM NITE. So, we're recreating the 80's Prom experience. A great opportunity for those who want a stroll down memory lane, as well as those people who want to have a good laugh over the notion of reliving their senior prom. All in the name of fun either way. Time for me to dust off the tux and grab that copy of "Pretty In Pink." Of course, that timeless John Hughes classic is the ultimate 80's Prom film, but it's been the subject of our Prom Nite trivia challenge FAR too many times in the past. After all, there are other 80's Prom films, even if they aren't as well known. Back in 1988, there was a movie called "The Night Before" that tells the story of a character named Winston Connelly who scores a date for the Prom with the most popular girl in school (because she lost a bet, basically). But poor Winston gets sidetracked on his way to the dance and wakes up in an alley with no idea how he got there. The actor who played Winston Connelly in "The Night Before" is a big star now, what is his name?

Bonus Question: Back in 1984, C. Thomas Howell played a guy who also gets sidetracked on his way to the Prom. He ends up befriending a pair of demolition derby promoters played by Jamie Lee Curtis and Patrick Swayze, and they work together to save the Derby from being shut down by the callous townfolk. What was the name of the film?

Jeff Goldblum Trivia

Actor Jeff Goldblum is probably best known for his roles in the Jurassic Park series and the film Independence Day. In these films, Goldblum played his signature persona, an introverted and idiosyncratic scientist with special insights on the crisis of the moment. Goldblum got to perfect this character in his first big hit film, a modernized horror story in which he suffers a most distressing mutation. It came out in 1986 and co-starred future wife Geena Davis. What was the name of this movie? Bonus Question: Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis got married in 1987 and would make one more film together ("Earth Girls Are Easy" in 1988.) But their first film together actually came out in 1985. It was a poorly received monster movie spoof that was actually financed by the Dow chemical company with frozen assets that the company was prohibited from spending outside of the country of origin (which was Yugoslavia at the time). What was the name of the film?
